We put our nice knives (Wusthof and Henckels stainless) in the dishwasher like the barbarians we are.
A dozen or so years ago, my housemate had a mishap with a paring knife that resulted in it falling on the heating element in the bottom of the dishwasher which melted a huge divit into the side of the handle.
She replaced the knife. I figured I'd try fixing it. Ground the edges of the divot down flush and went looking for something suitable to fill it with, which turned out to be PC-11 - the marine-grade brother to PC-7 putty epoxy.
It made a functional if not pretty repair. We continued putting our knives in the dishwasher since we are still barbarians.
Twelve years later, this is how it looks.
